who is Pilates
This most highly effective, efficient, and natural form of exercise was designed by German-born Joseph Hubertus Pilates in the early 1900's. First known as "Contrology" and then later coined Pilates, his system of movement was developed to guide people towards uniform health and wellness. Teaching and transforming everyone from sick and wounded internees during WWI in Germany to dancers and the elite later in New York City, Joseph Pilates was generations ahead of his time.
Today's generations are in even greater need of his method. Hectic lifestyles, work overload and stress contribute to an overwhelming build-up of toxins, tightness, weight flux, anxiety, and depression. By embracing Pilates we can begin to live differently. Genuinely and routinely practicing Pilates results in "the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure" (Pilates' Return to Life through Contrology, 1945). Practicing Pilates is similar to taking a daily multi-vitamin. A session of Pilates improves your skill and technique in Pilates as well as your skill and technique in life.
